2. Pigs cannot perspire, that is why they need water or mud to lie in- to dissipate  their body heat.

3. Pigs kept on pasture need to be de-wormed at least every 3 months as they eat worms, roots, and love digging in moist ground. (they have that kind of long snout for a good reason!)

4. A good pig fence must be woven wire buried at least 6 inches into the ground or the baby pigs will dig their way out  under it.

5. Sows are very apt to have their babies in a thunderstorm, if one happens close to the birthing date. Pigs usually make good mothers.

6. Pigs are omnivores and love meat if they can get any. They will kill and eat small animals if they do not get enough protein in their diet.

7. Pigs keep growing their whole life, just grow slower as they get older- and can live up to 20-30 years.

8. Pigs are very intelligent. They love toys- like bowling balls or old bowling pins, tires, overgrown zucchini, overbaked and cement-like cookies, etc.

9. Domestic pigs that gets loose (in the south) will turn completely feral/wild in 3 generations.

10. Pigs can make good pets, can be easily housebroken, and learn to “woof” at company. However, you need to keep all of the above in mind. They will dig up your yard, they need special vet care, and they will bite.

11. If you have a cardiac valve replacement with a pig valve, you will not have to take blood thinners the rest of your life the way you would with a mechanical valve.
